Jonathan Castillo
Principal Bassoon
Jonathan Castillo joined the Mid-Texas symphony as principal bassoon in 2014, and is an active freelance musician in Texas and Louisiana. He has performed with the Shreveport (LA), Victoria, Corpus Christi, Waco, Austin, and San Antonio symphonies, and was selected as an apprentice for the 2013 Hot Springs Music Festival. In 2016, Jonathan appeared as one of four soloists for Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with the Mid-Texas symphony and is excited to perform part of Mozart's bassoon concerto with the Mid-Texas Symphony in February 2018! In addition to performing, Jonathan is passionate about education and teaches in the north Austin area. When he is not playing bassoon, he coaches indoor cycling classes and is a certified personal trainer. Jonathan holds degrees from Baylor University (BM, 2014) where he studied with Dr. Ann Shoemaker, and The University of Texas (MM, 2017) where he studied with Kristin Wolfe Jensen and served as the teaching assistant for one year.
